Political Research Associates is a social justice think tank dedicated to studying and challenging the U.S. Right. Our key issues areas span LGBTQ rights, reproductive justice, immigrant and racial justice, civil liberties, and economic justice. The Research and Editorial Intern will help in investigating a variety of right-wing movements and institutions, and producing The Public Eye magazine. Research responsibilities include: extensive web, library, or phone research; fact checking; meeting and coordinating with researchers and analysts; library work. The Public Eye responsibilities include: assisting with reporting and research; copy editing; proofing; selecting images; assisting with layout; writing assignments. PRAs research areas span gender, racial, immigrant, and economic justice; civil liberties; education; and other areas under attack by the Right. For summer 2012, we are looking for general interns interested in the right-wing and social justice as well as those with a focus on: LGBTQ Rights; Immigrant Rights; and Islamophobia and Anti-Semitism. Online magazine: PRA launched a new website in 2012, leading to new opportunities for web publishing, multimedia, and blogging. We are also looking for an intern with a journalistic focus interested in contributing to writing and editing as well as research specific to magazine articles, conducting and transcribing interviews, and suggesting new features. Qualifications: experience in journalism or research; excellent written communications, editing and proofreading skills; proficient in MS Word, Excel, and graphic related applications; detail-oriented; able to work on short and long-term projects; ability to work independently and as part of a team; interest in progressive activism.

The Social Media Intern will report directly to the Communications Director and be entrusted with significant responsibility in building and maintaining PRAs online presence. The Social Media Intern will maintain PRAs existing social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, LinkedIn, and Pinterest. In addition, the intern should keep a close eye on social media trends, and continue to build PRAs presence on new platforms. The intern may also participate in the organizations other operations and write for the PRA Eyes Right blog. Virtual office candidates considered for this position. Qualifications: Facebook and Twitter proficiency; familiarity with other platforms specifically Tumblr, Pinterest, LinkedIn encouraged. Creativity and initiative in brainstorming projects, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and strong attention to detail. Interest in progressive activism and causes. Journalism/blogging experience and experience with web design and development are pluses.

Responsibilities may include: Contributing to marketing/digital strategy and best use of new website; Drafting press releases, email blasts, newsletters, and other materials; Supporting the development of media strategies and journalist outreach for promoting major releases/events; Contributing to social media, blog, and other editorial opportunities; Multimedia projects using layout, photo, audio, or video equipment; Supporting fundraising initiatives and helping integrate communications and development. Qualifications: Excellent written communications, editing, and proofreading skills; proficiency with graphic design applications preferred; prior marketing and public relations experience; ability to multitask and handle short- and long-term projects; ability to work independently and part of a team; interest in progressive activism.
