Therapeutic Recreation Internship

ABOUT WAVERLY HEIGHTS Waverly Heights, LTD is a private, non-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community. Our campus is situated on 63 acres of beautiful land only 10 miles northwest of Philadelphia in Lower Merion Township. It consists of residential apartments and villas, a health care center, commons buildings, and recreational areas. The focal point of the community is a stately Manor House built in 1912 that houses resident and staff facilities. Waverly Heights is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation FacilitiesContinuing Care Accreditation Commission (CARF-CCAC), the only accrediting body of continuing care retirement communities in the United States. This means that Waverly has met the industry standards for management, financial stability, resident life, and health and wellness. Waverly Heights is a member of the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) and the Pennsylvania Association of Non Profit Homes for the Aging (PANPHA). About Therapeutic Recreation at Waverly The Department of Therapeutic Recreation plans and implements a variety of social and recreational activities for residents of the health care center. Programs are designed to enable residents to participate in both past and new leisure interests. The department is staffed by trained professionals with diverse backgrounds in the areas of recreation therapy, music therapy and activity therapy. About the TR Internship Length of program: Senior interns must complete 600 hours over 15 weeks. The senior internship experience is full-time and is 40 hours/week. This includes 5 days/week and the possibility of working some weekends and evenings. Goal of the Senior Internship Program: The goal of the Waverly Heights senior internship is to provide a full-time educational experience based on the NCTRC Job Analysis and the ATRA Standards of Practice, that will reinforce the students classroom learning, and prepare them for the workforce and the NCTRC exam. Students are required to complete the same workload as the TR Coordinators, in addition to assignments required by the university and special projects required by Waverly. Location of Internship: The intern will be assigned to complete assignments and work in all areas of the healthcare center, including skilled nursing, assisted living and memory support. A schedule for this work will be determined during the interns first week at the facility.

ARTS TO GROW (ATG) is a nonprofit organization that collaborates with New York City metro area public schools and community organizations to provide music, visual arts, theater, dance and literary programs to underserved urban youth. Through our powerful model for learning through the arts, we help each child experience life-changing personal success. They discover joy in learning, become self-motivated, feel valued and gain self-confidence and skills necessary to look beyond the limitations of their environment and become leaders now and in the future. SCOPE OF OUR SUCCESS Launched in 2005, ATG has partnered with 14 inner city public schools and community organizations, including schools serving children and young adults with special needs. Program partners are located in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Newark and Hoboken, NJ. 50 more schools and community organizations are on a waiting list. ATG has offered 74 high quality custom programs to over 1600 children ages 5-22. 390 kids were served during the 2010-2011 school year. During the 2011-2012 school year we are looking for an intern/volunteer) that can commit a minimum of 10-20 hours weekly for a minimum of two months. Work hours are very flexible. Work on-site in Arts to Grow's home-office and virtually. We are located 25 minutes from mid-town Manhattan in walking distance from the Grove Street PATH station in the historic Van Vorst Park section of Jersey City . Credit for undergraduate and graduate study can be arranged. We have worked with students from New York University 's Graduate School of Arts Administration and Drexel University 's Graduate Program in Arts Administration, Montclair State University, Seton Hall University and others. ABOUT ARTS TO GROW Arts to Grow (ATG) is a non-profit arts education program partnering with schools and community organizations to bring classes in the arts to young people with limited access to learning through the arts.
