Housing Survey Research Internship

This fall the City of Virginia Beach Department of Housing and Neighborhood Preservation will be conducting a windshield survey of the citys housing stock to measure the overall condition of residential properties in Virginia Beach and identify related trends. A stratified sample of single-family structures by age, structure type, and value by census tract and block group is the key element to the success of this endeavor. The sampling technique and other analytical instruments used should be replicable for future surveys. The overall condition of all single-family housing in the city will be measured by the rate of non-standard housing. We are looking for one or two motivated and hardworking individuals to assist with the development of the survey. The selected interns will work directly with city staff to: Help design the survey and methodology Analyze previous and current survey data Develop a stratified sampling technique which can be utilized for future surveys Provide quality assurance testing Assist city staff with compiling a final summary report Candidates for the Housing Survey Intern positions will be required to apply and interview for these positions, and must pass required local and state criminal background checks. The candidates selected will be considered paid contractual/temporary employees of the city. Regular working hours will be Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Actual work days and hours for the intern position will be determined in coordination with the selected applicant.
