The Square Foot Gardening (SFG) Foundation is seeking a college student intern to be oversee all garden installations in the San Diego area. The Foundation installs Square Foot Gardens at various local sites such as churches, community gardens, schools, foster homes, transitional shelters, and orphanages. Some prior gardening experience is required. The candidate will be trained on how to do on-site inspections prior to garden installation and will learn to use the Square Foot Gardening method. The intern will be in charge of installing the gardens, coordinating with local volunteers and local Square Foot Gardening Certified Instructors, mixing the Mel's Mix soil, and planting. This is a one year, unpaid internship, but a stipend can be discussed based on the candidate's experience. The Square Foot Gardening (SFG) Foundation is seeking a college student intern to assist the San Diego SFG City Director by being a community representative for the Foundation. The intern will be responsible for attending meetings and weekly networking events, building SFG's grassroots network. The intern will learn about all local SFG projects and then network with other organizations before reporting back to the SFG City Director, identifying where the goals and mission of SFG might line up with other organization's in hopes of partnering with or assisting them with existing or future projects. The intern will be required to maintain an active database of all contacts made and relationships formed. The internship is a real networking opportunity and chance to learn about grassroots organizing and political operations in the gardening and beautification sectors. This is a 6 month-1 year, nonpaying internship.
