About Therapeutic Recreation at Waverly The Department of Therapeutic Recreation plans and implements a variety of social and recreational activities for residents of the health care center. Programs are designed to enable residents to participate in both past and new leisure interests. The department is staffed by trained professionals with diverse backgrounds in the areas of recreation therapy, music therapy and activity therapy. About the TR Internship Length of program: Senior interns must complete 600 hours over 15 weeks. The senior internship experience is full-time and is 40 hours/week. This includes 5 days/week and the possibility of working some weekends and evenings. Goal of the Senior Internship Program: The goal of the Waverly Heights senior internship is to provide a full-time educational experience based on the NCTRC Job Analysis and the ATRA Standards of Practice, that will reinforce the students classroom learning, and prepare them for the workforce and the NCTRC exam. Students are required to complete the same workload as the TR Coordinators, in addition to assignments required by the university and special projects required by Waverly. Location of Internship: The intern will be assigned to complete assignments and work in all areas of the healthcare center, including skilled nursing, assisted living and memory support. A schedule for this work will be determined during the interns first week at the facility.
