Internship Summer 2013

New York Genealogical and Biographical SocietyNew York, NY
The NYG&B is pleased to offer several eight-week internships for college students and graduate school students. Internships are four days a week and come with a stipend of $100 per week. Interns will help develop content for our publications and our website, participate in social media and marketing projects, and conduct their own family history research. Internships for Library School students will be tailored to their academic needs, and supervision will be provided by a professional MLIS on our staff. Interns will conduct research on genealogy topics and resources in New York State and develop content for the NYG&B Research Guide series of publications. They will also prepare and upload content -- from historical documents to digital books -- to the NYG&Bs website, which is continuously enhanced and expanded. In addition they may assist with membership, marketing, education, and administrative projects. Interns will be given hands-on opportunities to develop valuable skills through exposure to the many aspects of digitizing documents, social media research and marketing, website development and search engine optimization, current and historical research, and the Raisers Edge, a membership database that is widely used by nonprofit organizations and schools. As part of its commitment to engage young people in family history research, the NYG&B offers interns the option to spend up to one day per week on an independent research project relating to their own family or community history, under the guidance of NYG&B staff.
