Intern Wallspace Gallery (New York NY) Wallspace is seeking an organized, detail-oriented, and professional candidate for a part-time internship to begin at the end of May. Gallery hours of operation are Tuesday Saturday between 11am and 6pm, and the intern is scheduled to work one to two days per week within these hours as well as during opening receptions. Interns duties are evenly dispersed amongst different areas of activity so as to grant an intern a general introduction to the day-to-day responsibilities of a contemporary art gallery. Duties will focus on but are not limited to: - Archiving: Maintaining image database, file naming and sorting. - Archiving: Updating press and exhibition history on artist CVs. -Archiving: File organization and data entry. - Marketing: Maintaining and customizing contact databases. - Marketing: Formatting press reviews and archiving. - Operations: Maintaining office supplies and all print materials made available to the public (press releases, checklists, maps & guides) - Event Planning: Preparing for and attending opening receptions and related events In addition to possessing a strong interest in contemporary art, applicants must hold a bachelors degree in art history. Mandatory basic skills include a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and some Adobe Photoshop. Attention to detail, organizational skills, ability to multitask under coexisting deadlines, and a genuine desire to learn as much as possible about working in a contemporary art gallery are absolutely necessary. A successful intern will gain exposure to the efforts that come together to comprise a contemporary gallery space. Upon successful completion of the internship, the internship supervisor will serve as an ongoing reference and recommendation for future employment opportunities.
