Health journalism, digital media intern

MedCity Media, the publisher of MedCityNews.com, is seeking a summer intern to produce copious amounts of healthcare content (from blog posts to social media to longer articles) and execute social media strategy. This paid internship will put the intern in the middle of a fast-paced, digital-first media outlet and the intern will be treated like a regular member of team. Ideal candidates have a passion for media and healthcare; have an understanding of social media; are coachable yet independent, critical thinkers; are willing to try different approaches; and are flexible enough to take on different duties throughout the summer. Knowledge of WordPress and other content management systems is also a big plus. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position. Pay is $12.50 per hour and interns will get real-time feedback and exposure to a modern media company. Interns will work from MedCitys main office of Cleveland, Ohio. Interns will work on all facets of the business, primarily producing health content for content marketing clients and reporting on early-stage companies. The Bridging the Gap Community Center for the Bridge Project is seeking Interns for the Bridge Project. The Bridge Project mission is to support under-served middle school age children through athletic, educational and enrichment programs to help them achieve academic success, develop the personal skills and traits necessary to reach their goals and grow as individuals of sound character and reputation. The Bridging the Gap Community Center is a small grass root and community focused, but successful non-profit looking to expand its mission and services. To do this, Bridge Project is seeking qualified individuals for various internship positions. Because of its structure (with people working remotely from all over the US), BTGCC is looking for independently-driven, but team-oriented individuals who are able to be proactive without direct supervision and with the ability to manage multiple tasks well. In addition, individuals working as interns for BTGCC should be familiar with and committed to upholding and promoting the Bridge Projects mission of supporting under-served middle school age children through athletic, educational and enrichment programs. There are currently five internships available, all of which are unpaid positions. If your school provides internship credit, we are happy to provide assistance securing it. MeHCA Health and Computer Literacy Instructor

The Front Porch Center for Technology Innovation and Wellbeing (FPCTIW) explores the innovative uses of technology to empower individuals to live well, especially in their later years. FPCTIW works collaboratively with all stakeholders and in partnership with funding sources, researchers and technology partners. The MeHCA Computer Instructor will provide basic computer literacy training to seniors for the Model eHealth Community for Aging (MeHCA) project, and will report to the FPCTIW director. The Model eHealth Community for Aging project (MeHCA) focuses on deploying health-related, technology-based activities for a diverse population of senior and disabled residents of the Los Angeles Koreatown neighborhood. In support of one component of this project, the volunteer will provide basic computer/Internet training and health education to seniors and other adults at an affordable housing community. Job Functions OUTREACH Promote resident participation in basic computer and Internet workshops, include designing and posting flyers, speaking with residents, and ensuring activity attendance. Nurture the development of community leaders to support project activities. TRAINING/SUPPORT Provide direct computer-based trainings to participants. Coordinate with project coordinator to set up for mobile computer lab. Support the development of curriculum, and research additional health-based resources on the Internet for English and Korean learners. Exercise high degree of sensitivity and privacy toward personal health information. ADMINISTRATION Participate in bi-weekly team calls. Organize and prepare weekly lesson plans. Distribute, collect, and enter data from surveys following each workshop. Document activities and events through photos, notes, and other observations. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Proficiency and high comfort level with computers/technology. Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills; ability to verbally express ideas assertively, clearly. Ability to teach technology to community members and colleagues with diverse backgrounds and technology proficiency. Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with others to secure necessary information and cooperation from a variety of people. Korean/English bi-lingual skills required. Background in health, nutrition, and/or gerontology helpful but not necessary. Time Commitment and Pay This is an unpaid, part-time volunteer position for 3-5 hours/week once a week during regular workday hours, as agreed upon between the volunteer and the FPCTIW director. The term of this volunteer position will be from April 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013.
