I have seen a large chunk of what it means to be an engineer. I got the opportunity to take an idea and turn it into a prototype. I really liked that at this company, I didn't feel like I was just the intern. Occasionally I had typical intern duties, but most of the time I felt more like just another engineer working on a project. This was nice because it gave me a sense of ownership and belonging. I have friends who spent the summer as a lab rat doing the bidding of older graduate students and professors. I on the other hand got a project that I had the freedom to take in almost any direction that I wanted. The duration {of the internship} gave me valuable experience with almost every facet of engineering such as research, planning, material acquisition, manufacturing, programming, testing, and presentation.
