Bellevue Arts Museum is the Pacific Northwests center for the exploration of art, craft and design through exhibitions, educational programs and partnerships, emphasizing the work of regional artists. The Bellevue Arts Museum ARTSfair is the largest fundraiser for Bellevue Arts Museum. The ARTSfair is scheduled for July 26-28, 2013. Over 300 national leading artists are juried into the ARTSfair by top art professionals. In 2012, over 320,000 people visited this community event to view the art and dance to the music! The Hospitality Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the Artist Lounge. The Artist Lounge is a complimentary service to participating artists. The lounge is an area where artists can relax and enjoy food and beverages. The Hospitality Coordinator is responsible for coordinating food and beverage, hospitality donations and keeping the lounge clean. In addition, the Hospitality Coordinator is responsible for creating a welcoming atmosphere and will need to come up with a plan of activities such as massage therapist schedule, artist information board, games, etc. The coordinator must be comfortable directing multiple volunteers throughout the 3-day weekend. INTERNSHIP IN BRIEF This internship is an apprenticeship in Public Relations, as it is applied to Arts Management. Intern will: - learn to write English-language press releases and journalistic-style articles on arts topics - master website/newsletter design using basic HTML and Dreamweaver - assist in publicity photo shoots and ultimately take theatrical production photos - observe and participate in arts marketing strategy meetings with clients of Jonathan Slaff and Associates - compile and maintain press contact databases - learn creative approaches to "the art of the pitch" - apply new skills in website maintenance to the New York Theatre Wire (www.nytheatre-wire.com) and Curator's Choice (www.nymuseums.com), where the intern be trained in writing of news articles, headlines, "teasers," and digests of articles. This practical exercise is intended to raise the intern's English communication skills to a professional level. The intern have the opportunity to measure his/her own writing against the writing he/she is processing. This exercise will also give him/her first-hand experience in working for an actual NY media outlet, on the "other side of the desk," which is ideal training for media relations. DESCRIPTION OF THE COMPANY: Jonathan Slaff & Associates performs media relations for cultural institutions, domestic and foreign government agencies, professional theater and dance companies, fund raising events and civic events, primarily in New York City and its vicinity. The firm solicits print and broadcast media outlets for news/feature story coverage, arts reviews and photo placement. It is one of the few press offices in New York that takes its own press photos. It is a leading theater press office in New York, which publicizes over 60 new works per year.
